Do You Feel Lousy All The Time?

Some people consider it ‘Yuppie Syndrome” or maybe you work too many hours, but you never really feel rested and you are always tired.  There is a need to get to the bottom of this.  Will the fatigue get worse with age?  Wow that would really stink.  What causes chronic fatigue?  Let’s look at a few possibilities that you should consider.
Have allergies?  Allergies like mold allergies, dirt mite allergies and just allergies can drain you of your energy.  There is a battle going on inside.  It is important to treat the allergies but go further.  Those allergens and dirt mites need to be gone from your house.  To do that, use a dehumidifier in the basement to stop humdity and mold from growing.  Mold is a trigger for allergies and mold allergies and can trigger asthma attacks.  High humidity can also cause the dirt mite population to grow.
Clean the air of pollen.  You do that by using allergy air purifiers throughout the house.  Docs often tell you to run them in the bedroom which is certainly a idea.  But you have mold and pollen all through your house.  Use allergy air purifiers according to the square footage of your house.
Last step.  Clean everything with Borax. Thorough cleaning is always beneficial. Use a hepa vacuum to clean up dead mold spores and suck up pollen left on surfaces.  Always close windows at night as that is when pollen count increases.
See if you feel better then.  If not keep going to see if your fatigue is the result of some underlying condition. Make sure that you are eating fairly often.  Healthy meals certainly make a difference if eaten through the day.  And don’t eat too much as that makes anyone fatigued.  Lots of folks have terrible eating habits that will certainly lead to fatigue.
Sleep at regular intervals.  Figure out how much sleep you need and don’t over do it.  Everyone has a sleeping pattern.  Not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep.  The Lord told us to take a Sabbath.  Well, do you?  Are you always doing something 7 days a week.  You need to chill out on that one day. It heals and refreshes you.  Read the Bible”  Proverbs are great.  Poetry or engage in meaningful conversation with a spouse or friend.  Reduce stress by getting some exercise.
Hope this helps.  The tips to have the dehumidifiers, allergy air purifiers and hepa vacuum are a must for every home. Mold exposure is not good for the health of anyone. To kill and prevent mold also decreases pollen and dirt mites.

Hope you figure out the source of your fatigue.  Live healthy…Be happy!

Too Many People Dying Young

Now what does that mean?  When you pick up the paper how many people are in the obituaries at the age of 40 or 50 or so?  More than should be.  At least 10% or more in my area.  You do not know because of the HIPPA laws.  Know a health professional working on a cancer unit and he was taken back by how many people were in their 40's and 50's dying of cancer.  The question is how did they get there? Were they doomed by poor genetics or can you alter the path of genetics and what is the key to doing that?
Lots of questions but where are the answers and why does medicine not seem like it is in a hurry to find out why.  Don't get me wrong.  Where would we all be without the wonders of medicine.  I personally would be dead for many reasons.  I take life saving medicines that do just that: save my life on a daily basis.
How can you improve your overall health so that cancer, heart attack, stroke or some other horrible life robbing disease does not come your way?  A balanced life of good diet, exercise, stress coping, inspiration, and a positive outlook go a long way.
Now to go further.  How can you make your house healthy so you will stay healthy.  Go upstairs into the bathroom and count the number of shampoos, hair products, dental products, air fresheners etc all chemicals and how many of them really necessary.  Under your sink somewhere are how many cleaning products?  What about wall to wall carpeting which contains VOCs:  Volatile Organic Compounds:  cyclohexene, toluene, styrene which are use to stain proof and contained in the latex backing.  Some of these compounds are either known carcinogens or suspected.  This research comes from The Johns Hopkins Magazine Article:  "Home Sick Home"  September, 2000.  In the early 1990's USC did research on 362 homes and found DDT in the carpeting of 90 homes.  I guess we better start doing a better job of wiping our feet on the little rug in the entrance way.
There is so much more in this article but I do not want to overwhelm you.  I prefer and use hardwood flooring because my husband noticed a dramatic improvement in my health after removing carpeting.  Healthy carpeting free of these chemicals is very expensive.  If you are going to go with carpeting, it is suggested by this article to leave the windows open, use fans to pull out the VOC off-gassing which occurs  a lot of which occurs when installed and let the gasses literally go out the window.  Deep cleaning your carpets is necessary as well as the use of dehumidifiers to keep chemical off gassing from occurring in general in your house.  Start with a dehumidifier for basement and dehumidify any other area.

Since 90% of time is spent indoors, make sure it is healthy air as possible.  Open the windows when you can.  Run allergy air purifiers, period.  They kill mold, pull in biological contaminants like germs, bacteria, viruses, pollen, and if have activated charcoal aggravating fumes and chemicals.  Read more at: Warning: Your House Is Very Polluted!

Imagine the battles of these loved ones with cancer.

Spring Cleaning Done To Kill Mold, Mildew and Indoor Air Pollution:

Time to do the neverending list of spring cleaning chores.  Hopefully on the list 1st is airing out the house.  Open all the windows and let sun and fresh air in.  Depending on where you are living of course.  If the humdity is high already then leave the windows closed but leave in some sun anyway.  Mold does not grow in sunlight.
The fresh air coming from outside is much less polluted then that chemical, biological congtmainated air in the house. Sit outside a bit and maybe doink around the yard and get some fresh air yourself.  Plan what you are going to plant to further clean the air. While you are outside, rake the rest of the leaves away from the foundation of your home as they will get moldy and blow into the house.  Dump any standing water.  Make sure those gutters are clean and get the one that loves working on the roof to inspect it.  Spring can mean high winds and roof damage.  That is for sure, ownining a home is constant work.
Now for the inside.  Go through every room and clean like a real machine.  Wipe down all the walls with Borax mixture or just Borax and a bit of dishsoap.  When dry, hepa vacuum all surfaces even the ceiling and get all those dirt blobs hanging from the ceiling you cannot reach.  A commercial hepa vacuum is great for standing on ladders and cleaning high ceilings.  Pitch the unnecessary stuff because you will have to clean it and that is just more work.  Spring pitching.  Have a Goodwill box to go.  Mine is full and I am ready to start another one.
Make sure the basement has the dehumdifier for basement running.  If the temperature is too low at night you may need a bit of heat at night.  Clean the basement the same way.  Through out any porous materials like paper and cardboard boxes.  No carpeting as there is no way to keep it from getting moldy.
Keep the allergy air purifiers running and make sure the filters are cleaned or replaced of needed.
Look for anything that is leaking and always take care of that before you start cleaning.  Keep your house clean once you have done this in every room.  This is a lot but makes a big difference over your general health.
Consider if you need to run any more dehumdifiers.  Do this by making sure that the humdity is below 50%.  Use a hygormeter.  They are cheap to buy.

have a good one.  See You tomorrow.

Mold Free Home: Do You Want to Live Without Mold and Indoor Air Pollution?

You may think that you have a clean, neat healthy house and not realize that there are some problems. You live in an energy efficient house and don' worry about those high heating bills. The basement is wet because you don' t own or use a dehumidifier. It smells a bit for the most part; you really do not think it is a big deal. After all, what would a wet basement have to do with being healthy? It's the fact that mold loves warm, dark and damp places. Mold spores are invisible and you might not see evidence of the problem. If you have some cardboard boxes or wood stored down in the basement, it might be black underneath without you realizing.
Mold in the house is not healthy for anyone. It is especially not healthy for those with asthma, mold allergies, allergies and other breathing conditions this includes small children and the elderly. If exposed on a daily basis, the reaction is worse over time. Soon asthma is hard to control and you are using an inhaler without realizing why.
Mold is not the only problem. When humidity rises chemical off-gassing occurs. Chemicals leach out into the air for all to breath in. Mold, viruses, bacteria, germs all thrive in humidity as well as dirt mites. It is really hard to believe that the makers of carpeting actually have formaldehyde in carpeting. The thought of a baby rolling around face in the formaldehyde is not a welcome thought.  In addition to that there are many chemicals used on carpeting to make it anti-fungal.  It is treated with chemicals like chlorine, bromine, and phosphorus during a chemical bath. For the most part, carpeting should be used sparingly in a house because of all the chemicals used in carpeting. Chemicals in the air like air fresheners, deodorizers, pesticides are eventually fall to the ground to be absorbed by carpeting.  These chemicals are released over time into the air you breathe.
Are you one of those people that like to have the curtains closed  and never have the windows open?  The really bad new is the humidity of summer. Mold does not grow in sunlight.  Having a fresh breeze blowing through the house will take some of those nasty chemicals with it. Stop buying so many chemicals.  How many shampoos do you really need?  Chemicals to clean?  Maybe some more consumer education should occur so kids and their parents will realize that we are killing ourselves by all the chemicals that we willingly go out and purchase and use.
So what can you do to make your house healthier?  Open the windows and get some fresh air.  Fix leaks asap.  There are some absolutely amazing devices that are needed to make fresh air in your house.  Purchase allergy air purifiers.  Use them according to the square footage of the room and floor.  To be effective, an allergy air purifier must have hepa filtration. There are many other features that an allergy air purifier can have such as negative ion generation which produces fresh air and rids the air of mold, viruses, germs and bacteria.   Ultraviolet Light purifiers works by harming the cell walls of microbes and destroying them.  UV light has been used for decades in hospitals but why not in our houses?  Electrostatic air purifiers use the "corona discharge" to create an electromagnetic field.  Atoms pass through and gain a charge.  Depending on what side they go through, the atoms pick up a negative or positive charge and are attracted to each other falling harmlessly to the floor.  Activated charcoal mixed with Zeolite absorbs ions and molecules acts as a filter of odors, toxin removal and a chemical sieve.  Folks with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity benefit greatly because this particular allergy air purifier removes formaldehyde, perfume, chemicals and anything that smells from the air.  For MCS patients and other breathing conditions, it becomes much easier to breathe with this fresher air.
The topic of mold and indoor air quality is sparingly around.  Who wants to tell people not to buy carpeting?  Now the good news is that there are carpet manufacturers that are making carpeting made of natural fiber(not petroleum) wool, and these carpets are untreated.  A lot more expensive but the health benefits make it worth you investment.

Winter Means Colds, Asthma, Pneumonia; Time to Kill Mold

In the winter, it is nice to cuddle up by a fire and read a book or hang our with someone you love.  Problem is sooner or later you get really sick.  Now why do we get sick in the winter and not summer?  We spend even less time outside.  Indoor air is more polluted than outside air.  Throw in the mold that is being blown around your house because the ducts weren't cleaned.  The air around us is something really to think about; too many chemicals, mold, bacteria,viruses.etc..
Winter does not have to mean sickness.  Use mold air purifiers to kill mold in the air.  Using hepa filtration, mold air purifiers are great at collecting contaminants like mold, viruses, bacteria, and germs.  It is like a well kept secret to have mold air purifiers in your house.  It should be the norm that everyone have  mold air cleaners throughout the house; no one told you that these wonderful machines can clean the air so well.  maybe you would not feel as sluggish.
To prevent mold and kill mold on surfaces, hepa vacuum all surfaces.  Again, these vacuums suck up the dirt and do not throw anything back into the air like the old vacuums.
More tips:  even though it is cold, open the window a bit.  Freshen the air.  The old drafty houses let more air in then the modern homes;no drafts in those houses.  Newer houses are less healthy for being so air tight.  good for the heating bill; bad for the health.
Let sun shine in; make sure curtains are open on a sunny day.  The sun is very good for you.  Remember, mold grows in warm, dark and damp places.  So remember to keep the curtains open.  hope you and your family have a healthy winter

Selling a House? Kill Mold Before it Ruins Your House!

Selling a house?  Nowadays, houses are on the market for years. People tend to get really busy and don't bother to check on their properties for extended periods of time.  In that extended period of time, a leak can occur and mold can grow from 24 hours to 48 hours after water intrusion.
Realtors today know that not only is the homeowner losing money but so are they.  Why is mold such a big problem?  Mold problems depending on the scope can cost a wad to re mediate.  Think of a leaking roof from a bad storm and month have passes.  Water has not only dripped from the roof to the attic but through the bedroom and into the living room. Because there is no one there to clean up and prevent mold,  the basement also flooded because of the 10 days in a row that it rained.  No one knows this until it is too late.
Prevent mold by running a dehumidifier for basement in the basement.  Mold primarily grows in basements because it is warm, dark and damp.  Use mold air purifiers throughout the house to keep the air fresh instead of stale which is the first thing smelled by prospective owners. They actually kill mold in the air. Make a schedule, preferably once a week, to visit and walk through all of the property.  Turning off the heat can mean busted, frozen pipes.  Leave the heat on especially when the low drops way below freezing.  Make sure that the gutters have been cleaned out before it gets too cold.  If heat tape needs to be installed on pipes that are exposed to the elements, make sure it is done.
If mold does grow, you have a legal responsibility to tell the prospective owner.  Insurance in most states will not cover medical and home related expenses due to mold.  Mold can make a person very sick; infants under the age of 6 months are at a very high risk if exposed to high levels of mold.  The problem today is that more and more houses are considered moldy.  We do not know that we need to prevent mold , kill mold and be on guard against high levels of water intrusion and humidity.  Think about it, 1 of 2 buildings/homes in the U.S. have mold due to water intrusion. That did not occur because people were careful to avoid having mold in their homes! Folks do not think mold is a big deal.  Hey, I can leave my house because what is going to happen? Maybe a neighbor is keeping an eye on your house, but if they are not going in and making sure that water is not leaking then it does not take long for mold to take over.
Keep the humidity level down.  Make sure that pipes do not freeze by turning off the heat.  Open the windows occasionally and let some fresh air in. Prevent mold by taking these steps.
Just talk to a realtor.  The one I talked to went on and on as to how she will not enter a mold infested house.  She said:  'I have seen things I cannot talk about."  Dig into the web and you will see that mold is costing homeowners thousands.
Just let your house alone awhile and see what mess you can end up with.
